Marshmallows. Yum. Still in the tent! It’s an official tent now! We found a bug in the tent.

Sean Moffitt is in the tent with us. He loved our tent. This was big for us. Sean is a great marketing fellow and his kind words made our hearts glad. Breaking barriers with some fun.

Sean is the founder and chief evangelist of Agent Wildfire. Co-author of Wiki-Brands. Great read. We talked about the cover of the book and why it was important to Sean. The book is one I think all business folks need to read. Why should we use social media… Sean talks about it. He has a terrific sense of humour.

How do you put you Social Pants on in the morning? What is your strategy for Twitter, Facebook and blogging. Wise-one have a plan.

Sean also tells us that Social Media is a dirty word. Gasp! Interesting to hear about his viewpoint. He gives loads of information!!!

It was the longest interview we did at SMCV11. It was a chat that had a life of its own. We probably could have spent another hour talking to Sean.

Butter… it is an industry. How could we do social media about butter. QR Codes and butter. So many ideas.

Chris Kelly joins Bob and Kim in the tent at Social Media Camp Victoria.

We talk about the tent… and the schtick that it is. We talk bit about our drama/trauma of almost NOT being able to put up the tent.

Chris is from Entertainment Media. They are are talking about Ortsbo. You can talk in one language, then it translates to another. So cool! Great for our multi-cultural world. Really, check it out. Lots of cool plug-ins. This opens up the world – in so many ways.

Talk about Steve Nash too. His involvement in Ortsbo.

Loved the stuffed toys they had for give-away. Our kids loved them. Thanks Chris.

Butter… it took a while to get a recipe from him. We decided to put butter on bacon. We always end up talking about food. Wannawaffle! We loved them.

Big thrill for Kim. She got to me Rebecca Coleman in person! She is a supporter of the arts, is a great marketing person and an marketing educator.

We learn more about her interests, business etc.

It’s only been about 3 years that she has been doing blogging, podcasting etc. She is a traditional marketing person, but saw the changes that were happening in the media world. Social Media really helps support her work. She talks about working with social media and traditional media.

Fun to talk arts, pr and how we can get sales. Can we? Are people doing more hands on work to find the plays they want to see. Citizen journalism does help the arts… but there are lots of debates on this.

Rebecca says we can now connect with people much faster… it does help events. Powerful to make relationships.

WordPress is talked about. What is her fave plugin- she likes Sexy Bookmarks. Worth checking out.

Love this chat and Rebecca’s so energetic.

She blows us away with her butter food idea… Deep Fried Butter!

We have an American in the tent! We welcome Lyn Terry to the 2nd morning of the tent! Lyn tells us why she came to Victoria. She is one of the rare ones who came from the US. Loved her insight on SMCV11, Victoria and her first trip to Canada.

We had a large talk on introverts, extroverts and Affiliate Marketing.

Lyn talks about her 15 yrs in business – talk about mediums change, but how you work stays the same. Loves Twitter and how she is able to engage. Tells about her policy for Facebook.

Lyn gives us the Reader’s Digest version of Affiliate Marketing. She has been doing this for 10 yrs. Uses niche affiliate marketing. Interesting stuff. She sells everything from patio furniture to Tickle Me Elmo. She has a good vision of what is interesting to her – and that helps her with affiliate marketing.

Lyn gets to pick our food topic of the day – BUTTER!

We love Cathy Browne! She is the one who named us! Garlick and Plum.

We sidetrack with Lorraine Murphy….

Ok – we’re back in the tent. Cathy! She puts up with us. She is so kind and gracious. She is a connector… that is a given. She used to do a think called the Daily Intro… make connection for many people on Twitter. She is a woman who is a Social Media Matchmaker… maker of communities.

What surprised us is that she has only been in Vancouver for about 2 years. We thought she was a fixture here.

Kim and Cathy get on a jag about publicity… what fun it is to to talk to someone who knows gets it. Cathy talks about the immediacy that social media provides to pr professionals. She is a fountain of information. We get to talking about telephone protocol too… all goes hand in hand.

Cathy talks about her photography. Fantastic images. She is a better photographer than many, many people we have ever seen. She is also legally blind. A bit of vision – but her clarity is profound.

We also talked about being an advocate for those who are ill – Cathy will stand up for what she wants to support. She also sees how Social Media galvanizes for support of each other.

This interview with Cathy with a beautiful. We love talking to her. She makes us look at the world in a wonderful way. We heart you Cathy!

Yelp!!

We have a pre-role chat and it was so good we kept it. Great to have Crystal Hendrickson in the podcast tent. Social Media Camp Victoria 2011 was a great place to connect. We talk about her Tom shoes… Canadian. We also talk about body odour etc. We grossed poor Bob out.

Crystal is manager of YELP North America. She is a going concern! Lots of fun, and again, loves building community. Yelp is about the collective – the place where people give information and get information. Share your own hot spots. Crowd-sourcing rocks.

Crystal is so into bacon that she shared this photo of her own personal gingerbread bacon men.

Cherry coke in a can… and some bacon talk – Crystal even mentions fake bacon. Gasp! Now that’s something to Yelp about.

In the canvas tent! Talking to Theresa Lalonde from CBC. Kim and Theresa talked about a very intense radio show and how it translated to life online and again offline. Here is the story that we were talking about. Be warned, it is touching and will move you to help make some changes.

Chatted about how radio works with their community…. more immediate with the aid of Social Media.

Learned lots about how reporters in the field use different tools… Theresa like Social Media and how she learns from people. It is a great source for getting to know people and have them get to know you.

Social Media does aid Theresa to open up her contact range and find people to talk to. It is interesting to see how many media folks who use it and some who are resistant and how they are being made to use it. Theresa has some great insight on this.

We also talk about Vancouver being one of the largest user of social media… lots of commuting and communications. Goes hand in hand.

Consumer and tech stories are things that Theresa talk about for CBC. The basic thing to be a good reporter is to be the best part of yourself – be interested in other people. Find your own voice…. trickier than it seems. Curiousity is a big thing to be for journalism, blogs etc.

Bacon! Theresa talks about chocolate bacon.

Kim and Bob learned so much from Theresa – we could have had a big tent sleep-over and kept on talking!

Sean Smith from Campbell River!

Talk about his family military history. Kim and Sean met on Twitter on November 11th and it was a treat to FINALLY meet in person. We talk about the value of Remembrance Day and all that we need to honour.

Sean is a huge Campbell River fan. He supports his community and that is exciting to see. He tells everyone why his town is great, shows the fish, the wildlife and more. Community building using the social media community. Lovely combination. He does lots of volunteer work and uses social media to promote his community. We would love for more people to promote their town, city etc!

We get to talking about Hootsuite, Sprout Social and how the analytics work for him. Bob is curious about the options….

Can we agree to disagree on Twitter? Conversations can be started – and opinions heard. We talk a bit about politics and how that works for Sean.

We really enjoyed listening to Sean – he talks more than us! Can you believe that!

Back in the tent! We were busy getting our photos done…. and working on puns.

Nancy White is talking about her book, she loves talking about how communities form online. Technology stewards. Fascinating, funny woman. Smart to boot!

We loved to talk about connecting and community.

Zack does marketing for European Floors. We loved him! He made us realize how much we have to learn from others and how much others learn from us. Open mindedness rules!

Nancy and Zack were brought together because they were in the vicinity of the tent… kinda like a venus fly trap the podcast tent was! Kim still loves this chat in the tent – she learned so much from both of these two folks.

This time we have the pleasure of talking to Jay Baer.

Jay is the co-author of “The Now Revolution: 7 Shifts to Make Your Business Faster, Smarter and More Social. He also has lots written on him on Wikipedia… you know you are someone when you have a Wikipedia page!

One thing Wikipedia does not have is Jay’s REAL NAME. We are such super sleuths, that we got it out of him. Well, not really, he just told us.

We talked to Jay about his love of Canada… and his desire to move to Vancouver Island. He talks about our great qualities. He made us feel great about where we live!

We talked about Jay’s book – and he talks about the publishing industry. He tells a great story about Kindle and his book.

We talk about marketing, customer service, social media (it is a job now – but needs to be a skill!). Lots of changes have happened in the past – talked about the future and some things that will happen. Exciting times ahead!

ROI, Metrics, crisis management, content and case studies are all covered in the podcast and in Jay’s (and Amber Naslund’s) new book.

Bacon tips from Jay…. he tells us how to do CRISPY BACON. Legit he says too!

The Podcast tent continues! Kim and Bob talk with Hootsuite’s Kemp Edmonds. We learn a lot of stuff about the organisation and how well it is doing from him and we also talk about BACON the ongoing subtopic in the Podcast tent today!

Here is a sad truth about Kim… she sings this song when she does Hootsuite on her computer. Maybe we should ask the gang down at Hootsuite to make us a special sweet-tooth application to make it even more useful for poor Kim and her sugar needs.

Kemp, is based in Vancouver. Has taught Social Media at BCIT, now works with Hootsuite and is just a great guy. It was a treat for us to chat with him. Learn about all the things Hootsuite brings to the users. Learn more about the free-mium model that Hootsuite recently adopted. One of the great benefits of Hootsuite is that it grows with you and your needs.

We also appreciate Kemp’s wry sense of humour and his work ethic. Nice that those go hand in hand. We admire that in a person.

Bacon is certainly the theme in the tent this day. It makes people happy. Interesting how strips of pig will do that to a person.

Some of us cannot eat bacon… Doctor’s orders. But, we can wear it.

In the hot seats are Valerie Lamirande aka @haidasoapgirl and Ronnice Krug aka @Caribbeancabana. Both ladies made the road trip from the Comox Valley to come to the conference.

Valerie (on the right) is Kim’s official soap supplier. We get the back story of Valerie’s soaps. Haida Gwaii stories through soap. History, depth and more in a hygiene project. Beautiful items to see and to smell. Too bad there is no smell for this podcast. Valerie tells us more about her soaps…. oil and water and making it mix.

Ronnice (on the left) talks about Caribbean food – her partner Wain, is a chef/owner of Caribbean Cabana. Amazing food, Wain is gorgeous and they work hard to engage locally and across the Island with their Social Media needs.

We talk JERK. The food, not the creeps. Road trip worthy jerk in Courtney.

Go do the fossil tour in Courtney – then go try the restaurant. A great day to be had.

Social Media Camp Victoria 2011 was super fun. Bob and Kim learn some great things from a variety of people at the conference. These people will now forever be know as Social Media Campers.

The reason for campers? Well, Bob and Kim thought they should put the CAMP in Social Media Camp, so they gathered a tent, a tree, marshmallows, toilet paper, wood, podcast equipment and tea, and created the Podcast Tent.

It was a very popular spot and we had the chance to connect with multitudes of interesting folks. It was a treat for us! This is the first of many podcasts we did on the first weekend of June.

We were also delighted we were placed near the washrooms and the green room. This meant we had ready access to tea at all times. Tea is happiness in a cup, did you know that? As we drank so much tea, the location of the washroom was ideal for us. The green room was so close, but we needed to know why it was called a “green room”. Here is the source of all knowledge, Wikipedia. Wiser than the Wizard of Oz, this site has the info. Learn about Green Rooms here – http://www.ask.com/wiki/Green_room.

Our first guest is Laura Barnes. She owns two Serious Coffee locations on Vancouver Island. http://www.seriouscoffee.com/. They do coffee, tea and Kim’s favourite, French Sodas. Laura tells us how they engage with customers for all 26 Serious Coffee locations on Vancouver Island. Their “Tall, Dark and Have Some” campaign rocked Facebook and Twitter. She loved how the public got involved. We learn more about the company and all that they do. Laura talks about how she became the Social Media person for the company.

Bricks and mortar companies can use social media in great ways. Laura Barnes is someone to learn from. We were lucky to have connected with her. We loved it and eager to hear more from her!

Can we make money doing Youtube videos? Bob gives us some ideas of it. Also, we talk about Apps. Is it too late to do apps? Niche apps are hot! Here are a couple Kim is doing PR for…

Start planning your summer adventures with the new Vancouver Island Exploration Guide travel app. Save on time (and gas money) by downloading this handy guide ($2.99) to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch from the iTunes App Store. Created by Jamie Moore.

This application has everything to be of help from those just beginning to cook and those that have been cooking for years. There is a wheel with over 250 ingredients that can be converted from cups and tablespoons, to grams, ounces, milliliters, whatever you need. Created by Sue Guest.

Will it blend? Fun and shows us some fun videos using a heavy duty blender, Blendtec.

Are you likeable…

Meetups with Matt… using tools for SM and cool guest speakers.

Bob has the love for Hugh Culver now! He is our new Guru. Practical advice, without talking down to people.

Does your marketing suck? What do people want to learn. Bob talks about what he can cover. We think we should really talk about branding encouraging people to GET OUT THERE! Make the relationships.

10 second elevator speech.

Went all old school – 45s! What was your first 45?

Ok. What does your CV look like? Kim and Bob gives you their different ways to make an impact. Lots of ideas out there. Ours may get you on your path for a rockstar CV.

There are a bit of talk on group deals… we like them.

Kim has been on a webinar kick. Yesterday was to at the same time. Hugh Culver and Angela Crocker. Two different talks – both interesting. Getting off email webinar by Hugh. Angela is talking about Social media for personal and business.

Time management talk – lots of tip. Hugh Culver has Kim motivated! We talk lots about how to emails and how to make it work for you.

Fun time management tools to use… www.e.ggtimer.com and www.Rescuetime.com.
Do not procrastinate is our tip of the day.

Is Social Media making marketers lazy? Bob has the link… interesting stuff.

Census forms… did you get yours? We talk elections, hockey and weddings… ok, just a little bit.

Affiliate marketing – what the heck is it? We talk about it… and try to make sense of it.

Geoff Clay of Revstar is Kim’s guru on affiliate marketing. He is BIG time! He has some great things coming up to teach people about this service – how it works etc! Kim will let you know what is coming up.

We need recipes for energy cookie for hikers. Bob is in the need of a recipe. Helppppppp.

Things that make us sad. The passing of Derek K Miller. His words touched us all. Goodbye sir.

May the force be with you. First show for May. Please let the weather improve!

Talking about Social Media Camp. Woohoo. We are very excited about the event. Hope you can join us. Discount code is MAVENS. Use it to save some cashola!

Love the value of podcasts, blogs, videos etc. What is the ROI (hate that word).

Wings! Wings! Wings! Where are the best? Check out this site and see for yourself.

Royal wedding watch is on to. Kim is totally into this. Hats, pinkies and more. We end up talking about booze and Kim’s age.

Bob and I are not hockey fans. Not on the band wagon. Loved seeing the hockey fans celebrating on social media though.

Angela Crocker does a blog post about Social Media and politics – here it is. Quite interesting. Here is a great article that illustrates the difference between features and benefits… Secret ingredients.

What is your secret… do you shout it from the roof top or keep it quiet! Love what Urs at strandsvancouver does with bringing people in to teach about hair! Classes are interesting, engaging and he shares secrets… but builds loyalty.

Crisis communications is another big topic we dive into. What do you think about these points?

Good Verizon commercial about the Royal Wedding. Love it! This video has over 12 million views.

Talk about using current culture for your PR ideas. Kim does it for some of her clients – lots of fun and good content for media out there.

Things our kids teach us… how to use that for your business.

We walk through all the points – real life examples and have some fun with each of the ideas.

Love this free downloadable from our buddy, Peggy Richardson. We love good info. Try to to do this every week!

Kim tells her soap story – ideas that lather!

We would encourage people to start making comments! Get the conversation started and see what happens.

Also, vote. You need to vote to change stuff.

Talk about the talking babies…

We talk about Twitter – Twitter 101. Just some of the things we cover today:

The beginning

Go to Twitter.com. Create your account. Go to Twitter search to seek out your name, your competitor’s name, keywords for your business. Put your bio in and don’t forget your picture.

What the heck do I tweet about?

Don’t talk about what you are doing… would be good to talk about what has your attention. Is it a local topic… election, national topic… Junos…. Household topic… spring cleaning tips..

Let’s not go crazy.
We give you permission not to read every tweet. You would go nuts! Read when you are there, scroll and if so inclined, comment, connect and engage.

Things you need to know.

Twitter is an adjunct to your marketing and promotions, so honour it as well.

Twitter is a community – welcome to the party!

Key things: Take your time, engage, do not go after multitudes of followers. Be discerning and build your group. Have fun, have fun, have fun. Go off line to meet people too. The #Nanaimo tweetups are a great way to connect. Business happens, alliances happen and more importantly, friendships blossom!

Lots more interesting things… but sadly, no talking of food or recipes. Ah, well, we were totally into Twitter tips!

Base-camp the Yetti has not turned up for the podcast…
What should we talk about?

We also talked about Social Media Camp 2011… Bob had a BRILLIANT idea and it was one to be acted on ASAP. Will keep you informed on how that plays out.

More tips, ideas and talking to come. Thanks for listening!

Sponsors, ROI, what is the win. Reasons and rational. Figure out what works for the sponsor.

We talk about elections too. We are slightly opinionated about disparaging remarks. They SUCK! Be the better you to win your election – not go after personal attacks.

What is the bottom line… when there are world tragedies strike, do companies do a greater good thing or take advantage of the situation.

Bob loves Mobilicity! He has a love affair with them.

We talk about sending the love to people! We need to support others. Bring a better place for our world.

We talk about Jay Peachy – great dude who talks about mental health. Check him out and hear his story and how he supports the world.

Clients who micro manage. The good – the bad and the ugly!

April Fool’s jokes.

Talk about content… good content as a whole for the internet. What is the core of your message?

Bob talks about a comedian who yells his tweets.

We talk more about social media – it is a serious endeavour. It is work folks. Bob and Kim talk about it and turnkey solutions… how do you do it? What questions do you ask to get the person for you? Bob and Kim have some good tips to share.

We talk popcorn – the best recipes from Kim and Bob.
Mmmm. Popcorn. Kim gets her kernels from a kiosk at her local mall.

Here is Kim’s home kettle corn machine.

Kim provides her popcorn recipe:

1/2 c. popcorn

1/4 c. sugar

2 tbsp. coconut oil

Melt shortening in a 1 quart saucepan on high then add the popcorn. When popcorn starts popping put sugar in and place lid on. Shake it to mix sugar. Keep shaking to keep from burning.

Product placement on websites, blogs etc. Fines? Yikes! Yes.

We also have rants, rants, rants. About doing due diligence, being a grown-up and understand roaming charges and data plans!

Quote from Dr. Matt today:
Begging is not an endearing quality. PLEASE RT!!!!!

We talk about a variety of things… Groupon… Facebook and Twitter.

Facebook tip for you:
A good tip to stay connected on Facebook from Darrell Ross.
Wondering why you’re only seeing status updates from the same people? Facebook has changed its News Feed so that by default you can only see updates from people you have recently interacted with! To change this, click the arrow next to “Most Recent” then “Edit Options” and tick the box to receive updates from ALL friends. Most importantly let others know!

We also talk about an online analytic report about the Egypt crisis.

We had a great chat about Groupon, coupons etc… Kim likes Island Daily Deals

Talk to Matt Astifan – he has great ideas about Groupon, coupons etc…

We talk about debriefing and the value of evaluation in your business (and Life). Great things for target market research so take time to do it because it will help you in the long run! Still confused then read this blog post.

You gotta Break a few eggs if your going to bake.

Talked about Himalyan Sea Salt… do not use for baking. After exhaustive research Kimberly has proof that it does not work.

Is it worth doing reports and proposals… tips from Bob. Understanding the strategy of bring in a virtual assistant.

Not a ton of show or show notes this week because Kimberly is recovering from a bad case of strep throat. So we cut the show down to 35 minutes to give her voice a break.

Kimberly has been very busy and as she stated in her last show she had a big gig in Vancouver helping out with an event that had Margaret Atwood as one of the VIP guests.

We do chat about what made Kimberly sick… Over work. Ironic since last we did talk about burnout.

I get a chance to give some advice on how to get the best person hired for your business.

I talk about a seminar I did with Matt Astifan the Social Architect. I forgot his name during the show so here is a link to a video about what he does.

Hope you enjoy the show and looking forward to the next show already.

Kim talks about the Juno Awards and The Kerplunks, who are up for their 3rd nomination. What a thrill.

We wish Bob a happy birthday. 50 years old is our man!

We are in love with viral videos. Last week we enjoyed the Don’t Shoot the Bear campaign.

Can we guarantee that videos go viral… nah! But it could. It is tricky. Bob has a “formula” for viral video. Listen and learn. The formula story can be found here.

Can you track the viral campaign? Where was the tipping point? How does it effect sales?

We talk about Burger King – they have it work viral. Low production on purpose… makes people feel that it was “real”. Amateur Youtube feel.

Kim and Bob love OK Go videos… check out this site with info and the videos.

What is the deal with Japaneses games shows. Bob talks about the famous Japanese folks and how they do promotion there. We talk cooking shows, sex game shows and other interestingly odd shows. Some primetime… some late, late night! Culture shock does happen.

The Library show: Don’t laugh or make noise when you get to do something weard.

Don’t laugh in class: Funny English lessons to make students (famous TV personalities). If you laugh… ouch!

Is Canada a multi-cultural society? Bob has an opinion. He has a great insight, but is he correct. Let us know. This guy loves Canada.

Kim loves this video. Piano stairs

Nerds can cry with pride with this video as IBM celebrates it’s 100th birthday. Hey that makes me feel a lot younger. (Bob)

Bob talks about British ads… and it got Kim to think about the BBC viral video. One Ronnie pokes fun at technology.

One of the favorite ads from Bob is Seinfeld and Superman.

Talk a bit about teaching styles too! What is yours? Would you hire us to do a “tag team” brainstorm talk… we would dress up.

We offer a few freelance tips too! Tried and true tips from us.

Memory is connected with taste says Bob. Smart man! We talk cooking and more today.

Talking about how cookbooks have inspired us.

We talk about marketing cookbooks…. get them out and about and get mouths watering. Kitchen parties, dinner contests. Participation parties are a great way to connect in the community and with food.

Page 41 of The Vegetarian Collection by Alison Kent and the Canadian Living Test Kitchen features Falafels. Yum… will see if we can get the recipe for you!
Also brainstorming with Carla Johnson and her book Cooking with Sin. Will see if we can get an extra book for give-away.

In awe of Cory Parsons. Great guy from Nanaimo. Book is FANTASTIC!

Heading out on adventure and inspires Kim is Heather Pardon. Her motorhome is Miss Daisy. Check out Heather and her blog.

Genetic weirdness is a place for George. Plus Bob talks about the book Strange Food written by Jerry Hopkins a friend of his in Thailand.

Bob gives his Auntie Pooh’s fudge recipe. He gets the recipe wrong, it’s not just Sugar and Butter. But after reading his Mom’s hand written instructions we need him to make us some!

We talk about Vitamin D too… Bob has odd knowledge about goats and Vitamin D.

Woohoo! It’s 2011 time to put your business in overdrive.

Crank up the volume and check out the show now.

More chatting with Kim and Bob. Bob started recording as I was whining.

Are Kim and Bob having an affair? A listener asks. Too funny.

Bob talks about how he found out he was good at discovering ideas. It gives some insight into his quirky mind.

Kim talks about how she got other PR folks interested in pitch ideas for soap. How people see things differently. Fun to show people there are more than one idea for a product, event, brand. (check out this clip from the classic move “The Hucksters” for more on how people used to sell soap, oh wait, they still do it this way.)

Love Tracey Kuffner’s new book…. check it out. Kim loved the book about endangered species and how I got two people from different provinces who have a similar goal. Strategic alliances rock.

Sometimes strategic alliances can come from getting out there and socialize… opportunities can come… good ones! Networking is a great thing and we hope you get out at least once a month.

How do strategic alliances work… how do they happen, how can they all win. It’s kind of like match-making. Some are short term and some are long term. You go in with your needs and away you go!

We talked about comedy, Seth Rogen and all the people who believed in him. We talk about comedy shows at coffee houses, restaurants, bars etc.

We talk about our other strategic alliances – how we work with them. The good and the bad. Mostly good. It’s a give/give situation when you start the relationship.

At the end of the podcast, Kim pressed a wrong button and stopped herself from being recorded. Silly Kim

Bob ended the show and he rocked it! He is a good strategic alliance and makes Kim look good.

Where do ideas come from – and how can you find your internal content. Ideas are around you – and what will work, makes sense and work in your budget.

We encourage one and all to ask for help – but trust your instinct.

Tip that we really want you to get… what is the win for the audience. That is one of the keys when it comes to marketing, social media, marketing etc.

Leveraged content is a great idea and one that we want you to plan for. It would be great if you can use your idea for many platforms – blogs, trade shows, social media, PR etc. We also talk about timing for implementation of your ideas. You need to plan ahead – and think for the future.

Sometimes strategy and negotiation goes hand in hand. We have some ideas and ways to get more for your buck.

We also chat about trade shows etc that need a fresh perspective and sometimes a great idea from you may be just what they need. Be a help for them and you will likely get more. Help them find fresh voices.

Included here is a picture of www.thebookbroads.com and our event where we got a standing ovation – a testament to what the organizer knew her group was hungry for. Fun, informative and for the people.

Printing, newsletters and more – what does your audience need and will learn to trust you and your business. It is all relationship building… giving and making it fun and interesting. What will keep your voice in the forefront for your clients – or potential clients.

Find good people to help you with things you are unable to get… Kim hires out financial stuff, and cannot not do her own PR. Outside sources can be a big benefit and help you move forward. Bob has a good story about how he had an epiphany about his business and how he kicked himself in the pants.

Bob talks about prosumers too… interesting mash-up word, but talking about many of us out there who like the bright, shiny stuff. Try to pull back from buying things… and think about content and how that will work for you.

Kim leaves the podcast with some homework for you… hope you do it. Open your eyes and check out the world and it will help with your ideas, content and ways to increase your profile.

Thanks and have a fantastic week.

The show this week is about Customer Service. What do we expect as customers, what we provide to our own customers and what role do we play with the service we get.

Interesting chat with Bob after a week of crazy family stuff, emergency room visits, doctor visits, sick kids and more. I had time to sit and watch customer service around me. I have also been out doing holiday shopping and seeing the behaviours of others… the good, the bad and the ugly. We share stories, ideas and how to provide and GET the best customer service.

Heather Pardon, a great mentor of mine, wrote a post recently about customer service. It got us me thinking about the other side of the counter.

Read her blog here…

Liked this article about great customer service… it is easy, really!

Google Analytics.

Have fun, play hard and get results!

Social Media marketing how it worked for Old Spice campaign. How they connected and how you might be able to utilize it for your own brand. They built a community and you can too – have fun and play!

We talk about some PR stunts too. How do they work, do they get your attention? They can be cost-effective. Again, if you do a PR stunt, make sure it’s all about your core message.

Chat about some PR campaigns that have stuck with us. We like the quirky. We also talk about how to make viral work.

Listen to the show right now:

Bob and Kim talk about timing. We talk about marketing and PR around Christmas and other seasonal evergreen events. We talk about timing for promoting your product, project etc. Timing is part of a strategic plan – and what you need to work on. Think about content all year round. We chat about the “dead zone” for Christmas season – media NEEDS content then. We also talk about promoting in the spring/summer… planning ahead!

We chat about press kits, articles, op-ed pieces. How do we talk to the media when an issue arises in the media – be ready and watch for the opportunity to be the expert in your field.

We found a great site that talks about special months, weeks and days. Find angles that fit for those special days. We provide the link below. Lots of ideas to work from on this day. You could tie this in with social media too – get it to trend. We talk about the great Movember campaign too.

During the quiet time in you business, work on your year marketing calendar. We talk about getting folks together to brainstorm about your business. Are you doing trade shows…. Work on your timeline – pre and post trade show. Tips on making the most out of your tradeshow. We chat about resorts/hotels/retreats promoting during the quiet times to help your business during your slow time.

This week we continue our talk about starting a business. More about marketing and publicity. Bob asks Kim some questions. Kim asks Bob some questions.

Where do you place you ad dollars? How do you figure out your market and find the appropriate place to put your ads. Think about negotiations, graphics, editorial content and more.

Brand perception is another topic of the day. What can you do work with a graphics designer and content creator. Bob also talks about to make your life easier when it comes to working on logos, websites and more. The reverse branding – and it works! Discovery sessions are great beginnings for all businesses…. I want one… hint, hint, Bob. It really clarifies who you are and what your business is. Bob also says that we have to get over our logo to move on and get your website and content going.

We talk about network meetings, a bit about social media… what is best for you? What is targeted networking? Is it wise to give free advice at these events? What’s in it for you?

Who can use publicity. What tools do you need to get started. Kim (that’s me) gives 5 tips… marketing timeline, a timeline for your PR content, switch your focus to your audience and not about you, you HAVE to have a website, please include a media page, photos – head shots and editorial, a bio (to blow your horn). How do you deal with the media… what works for them, what are their needs? You can do PR on your own – but ensure you are PROFESSIONAL. Make sure your press release is a solution provider for media. How will the media connect with you, your product, your service.

Media coaching is a key for clients if you are doing PR. Get an understanding of what you are going to say during your interviews. What are your main point, what you need to get across. Messaging is key. The goal when you do an interview is to build your credibility…. more comes from that.

Fresh ideas from outside experts to make a world of difference to your business – get outside your circle of influence to make sure you see clearer

Valuable tips to guide your new business. Thanks for listening.

However, your plan is far more than a document for banks and investors to read; it’s an invaluable roadmap for launching and growing your business.

In order to put your business concept on paper, you need to think through and research the many factors that are needed to make sure your business is a success. With a plan, not only can you spot potential weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, your plan can help you make informed decisions about your venture before you commit yourself legally or financially.
